Frequently Asked Questions
The ingredients in PureVida™ are generally considered safe and no synthetic or artificial coloring agents have been added to the product. Olive polyphenols, marine omega-3s, and curcumin are present in the diets of millions of people worldwide. However, we recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare professional who is familiar with your personal medical history before taking more than the recommended serving. If you miss a serving, we do not recommend that you try to make it up by taking more than the recommended serving of PureVida™ per day.
PureVida™ is not a synthetic drug and its ingredients are common in human food. In 45 individuals who participated in a small study regarding PureVida™, the most common side effects that were reported were abdominal pain (2.2%), constipation (11.1%), and headache (6.7%).
Some individuals have reported a fish aftertaste, and we recommend taking PureVida™ before breakfast or one of your other daily meals in order to minimize this effect.
If you are pregnant or nursing, taking medication, facing surgery, have bleeding problems, or undergoing any other treatment which may affect the ability of blood to clot, consult your physician before taking this producta.
Consult your physician if you are undergoing chemotherapy or active cancer treatment. While the ingredients in PureVida are all natural and generally believed to be safe, it is important to check with your physician if you are taking prescription medications that may interact with these ingredients. Curcumin has been known to interact with certain diabetes and acid reflux medications.
While there is no specific regimen you must follow in taking your 2 PureVida™ softgels per day, some individuals have reported that taking the product before a meal reduces the incidence of the fish aftertaste that is sometimes associated with taking fish oil products. We recommend taking PureVida™ in the morning before breakfast so that you develop a routine and can consume daily the targeted serving of the PureVida Power of 3™ natural ingredients.
No: PureVida™ will not prevent heart disease. Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. PureVida™ contains a minimum of 450 mg of EPA and 300 mg of DHA.*
The American Heart Association recommends 2 fish meals per week as a source of omega-3 fatty acids. Two PureVida™ softgels taken daily for a week provide the equivalent amount of omega-3s, on average, as more than
3 fish meals per week.
PureVida™ provides a second key element of the Mediterranean heart healthy diet, olive polyphenols. Two PureVida™ softgels taken for a week provide the equivalent amount of olive polyphenols (hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol) as 2.5 liters of olive oil per week without the added calories or unwanted fats.
No: PureVida™ will not prevent, treat, or cure breast cancer. Limited clinical trial evidence indicates that PureVida™ might lower elevated C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in women who have survived breast cancer. In addition, the same clinical trial indicates that PureVida™ may reduce joint pain associated with aromatase inhibitor (AI) therapy, which is often prescribed as part of a long-term prevention of recurrence regimen to breast cancer survivors.*
Levels of C-reactive protein (CRP) are increased in response to acute inflammation, infection, and tissue damage. PureVida™ is formulated to support the body’s natural response to chronic inflammation. Several published human studies conducted in Denmark, the U.S., and China have reported an association, in certain subsets of women evaluated over time, between lower CRP levels and long-term breast health.
For many women who have survived breast cancer, staying on prescribed aromatase inhibitor therapy is considered critical to their long-term health; adherence to AI therapy is difficult for many due to the joint pain that is a typical side effect of the therapy.
Maintaining a healthy heart is critical as heart disease is often a high risk for women who have survived breast cancer. PureVida™ provides 2 key element of the Mediterranean heart healthy diet, omega-3s and olive polyphenols. Two PureVida™ softgels taken daily for a week provide the equivalent amount of olive polyphenols (hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol) as 2.5 liters of olive oil per week without the added calories or unwanted fats. Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. PureVida™ contains a minimum of 450 mg of EPA and 300 mg of DHA.*
Because only one non-blinded trial, with 45 participants, has been performed, more research is needed to confirm that PureVida™ reduces levels of CRP or joint pain.
The effects of PureVida™ on weight loss or gain have not been studied; however, a serving of the product (2 softgels per day) has only 12 calories and 1 gram of fat; see the nutrition label for additional information.
If you are pregnant or nursing, taking medication, facing surgery, have bleeding problems, undergoing any other treatment that may affect the ability of blood to clot, or undergoing chemotherapy or other active cancer treatment, consult your physician before taking PureVida™.
The ingredients in PureVida™ are generally regarded as safe at the serving level that we recommend (2 softgels per day). However, as there are an innumerable number of drug combinations that have not been tested, you should consult your physician if you have any concern at all about drug interactions.
The bovine gelatin used to manufacture this product was processed with a method that meets or exceeds the standards set forth by the European Commission in October 1999. Gelatin processed in this manner has been proven safe from BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy) in scientific studies conducted by the Baltimore Research and Education Foundation (USA).
What are the benefits of the Mediterranean diet? What are the benefits of taking olive fruit extracts containing hydroxytyrosol?
The health benefits of the Mediterranean diet are supported by numerous studies such as the well-known “Seven Countries Study” and the PREDIMED Trial (a 7,447 participant multicenter, randomized trial with a follow-up of nearly 5 years). Many experts believe that the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet are related to the anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of olive-derived polyphenols such as hydroxytyrosol. PureVida™ provides 2 of the key staples of the Mediterranean diet in 2 softgels per day: marine omega-3s and the olive polyphenols, hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol.
A 2014 article in Frontiers in Nutrition reviews some of the available scientific data with respect to the Mediterranean diet and one of the ingredients in PureVida,™’s ingredients, hydroxytyrosol.
Among the separate foods that are part of the Mediterranean diet, olive oil is considered a crucial element directly related to the healthy attribution of this popular diet. Hydroxytyrosol, an antioxidant present in olives, extra virgin and virgin olive oil, is believed by many scientists to contribute to the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
Olive leaf, on the other hand, is not part of the Mediterranean diet. Olive leaf extracts on the market typically claim varying concentrations of oleuropein. Oleuropein is formed by elenolic acid + glucoside + hydroxytyrosol, and is not normally present in table olives or in extra virgin and virgin olive oil.
Although oleuropein is believed to partially convert to hydroxytyrosol when consumed, it does not convert 100% to hydroxytyrosol.
PureVida™ doesn’t rely on oleuropein to provide hydroxytyrosol. Instead, PureVida™ derives hydroxytyrosol directly from its source: olives. This way, you can be sure that every suggested serving of PureVida™ provides at least 37.5 mg of hydroxytyrosol. And, unlike some olive leaf extracts, the hydroxytyrosol in PureVida™ is extracted from the olive fruit without the use of solvents, utilizing a clean process that is patent protected.
PureVida™ is encapsulated and quality tested in a cGMP certified facility in California.
Trephenol™, the olive fruit extract patent protected by PureVida™ is manufactured in Spain and meets all relevant European standards.
The primary fish oil in PureVida™ is processed from pollock caught in Alaska and refined in Ohio into the omega-3 form OliVentures uses. It is sourced from AlaskOmega®; see the nutrition label for additional information.
The patented and clinically evaluated curcumin in PureVida™ is sourced from the Sabinsa Corporation. For more information go to http://www.curcuminoids.com/ or http://sabinsa.com/products/standardized-phytoextracts/c3/
Curcumin is a natural anti-inflammatory compound that the OliVentures team believes complements the
antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the olive polyphenols and omega-3s in PureVida™.
The name Curcumin C3 Complex®, a registered trademark of the Sabinsa Corporation, has references to its 3 main chemical compounds—curcumin, demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC)—collectively
known as “curcuminoids.”
Curcumin C3 Complex® is a patented and clinically evaluated "bioprotectant" composition of 3 curcuminoids.
PureVida™ is a supplement that, over the long term, is intended to support heart, breast, and joint health as its natural ingredients support the body’s response to inflammation. As a dietary supplement, PureVida™ also provides 2 of the key elements of the Mediterranean diet, olive polyphenols and omega-3s, without the added calories, in a convenient serving of 2 softgels per day.
Supportive but not conclusive research shows that consumption of EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Limited clinical evidence indicates that PureVida™ may lower elevated CRP levels. CRP is one of several markers of inflammation in the body.*
With respect to joint pain, OliVentures, recommends that you take PureVida™ for at least 1 month before
deciding if the formulation is right for you.
Limited clinical evidence indicates that PureVida™ may reduce joint pain in women taking aromatase inhibitors.*
No, PureVida™ does not need to be refrigerated but should be stored in a cool, dry location to ensure freshness. Exposure to high heat, such as may occur in a locked hot car, could cause the softgels to soften, melt, and/or stick together.
aIn a prospective, multicenter, pilot study of 45 postmenopausal women (mean age 59 years) with Stage 0-IIIA hormone receptor−positive breast cancer receiving stable doses of adjuvant aromatase inhibitor therapy for 2 to 5 years from their diagnosis, PureVida™ significantly reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) levels (p<0.05). In 45 patients examined for safety, reported to "adverse events (AEs) included abdominal pain in 1 patient (2.2%), constipation in 5 patients (11.1%), headache in 3 patients (6.7%), and abnormal product taste (fish taste) in 14 patients (31.1%). No patients had to discontinue therapy due to AEs. This study was conducted by OliVentures. There has been substantial separate research into the potential benefits of each of the ingredients in PureVida™. The PureVida™ trial has not been peer reviewed and more research is needed before drawing any final conclusions.
